Last weekend,

I had the pleasure of photographing my talented friend and client, Corina Grove at Wildflower! Arts and Musical Festival in Richardson, TX. Corina is so special to me, we met at an event the first time I ever traveled to Texas, years before I relocated here. She had a magical voice and the most bubbly personality, just someone who feels like sunshine on your skin. Fast forward to today and I have had the opportunity to shoot several of her shows, the artwork for three of her singles and one of merch designs. She has always been so supportive of my work and I am proud to get to capture special moments in her journey.

After wandering through the vast tents housing art vendors, I reached the main stage and checked in with Corina. Each time I shoot a show the day is pretty much always the same. I arrive early in the day to capture B-roll and stills during soundcheck, sit around, pick at catering, and make stupid jokes with the band. Then in a second the show begins, I run around for 60 minutes and in another instant it’s over. It’s a constant cycling of hurrying up and waiting. The post-show is a buzz of energy and with Corina there is always opportunity to capture sweet moments, plus she’s always down to snap a few portraits for me.

Corina’s set was an experience told through her powerful voice, dynamic band and strong songwriting. Chatting with her after the set, we talked about how exciting it was that she stuck with the genre she wanted and now she was getting to perform the indie pop music she loves. Despite the heavy country influence many Texas artists face, there is incredible diversity in the Dallas-Fort Worth music scene. It is such a special place to exist and work.

After the set I stuck around to shoot the first three songs of Saint Motel’s set but left before the headliner, GROUPLOVE. I debated for a while whether I should stay like I wanted to or go like I knew I needed to. Ultimately I decided on dumplings and a movie at home. On the way out, I bumped into an Instagram friend which brought me back to Earth. It always makes me happy to see photographer friends out in the wild.

Listen to Corina’s music here.
